LICEO PARINI HAS A BRAND-NEW ENGLISH WEBSITE

Students from different classes have been working on this project since last year. They have joined a dedicated Faber Quisque course, where they translate parts of the website under the supervision of Ms. Giulia Ghisoni, one of our English teachers.

Prior to the translation, the teacher makes sure that the text is perfectly clear to everyone, then she encourages the students to recognize and highlight morphological and syntactic aspects. The translation is never mechanical, as the key question is: “How would an Englishwoman or an Englishman express this idea?”.

Further clarifications and suggestions may be necessary, as are sometimes references to grammar rules.

The students work in small groups using mono- and bilingual dictionaries, then compare their versions and sometimes check the web for the correct use of idioms. The final text is therefore the result of a collective effort, with the teacher limiting herself to the above-mentioned support so as not to influence the ‘translators’ choices.
